Wellness Shots for Cold and Flu Season

The Fall into Winter season can take a major toll on most of us. Our bodies are adjusting to colder temperatures (many of you have already had to deal with snow!!) as well as fewer light hours in the day – so we are inside more. We have less fresh air and all those germs that we carry in our bodies like to have a big ol’ party (the reunion of the year!).

Even in North County San Diego where my family and I live we have had a big shift in temps and just the start of school alone always brings it’s immunity challenges. Today I made these wellness shots for my fellow co-work members at Union Cowork in Encinitas where we have shared desks and rotate on the daily in tight quarters.

These are easy to make and go a long way at protecting our health so you either prevent colds and flu (or other nasty bugs) or heal from the more quickly if you happen to catch one.

Green Power Shot

  • 1 cup of coconut water
  • handful of spinach and kale
  • 3-4 leaves of romaine
  • 3-4 leaves of swiss chard
  • 5 mint leaves
  • 1 apple
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 lemon
  • 5 mint leaves
  • 2 sprigs parsley

Blend all ingredients in a high-powered blender. I used a Vitamix.  After blending, add a nut bag to a pitcher and strain the blended juice into the nut milk bag to remove the pulp. Squeeze the bag until all of the liquid has strained through. Pour into glass jars (I used a large Ball jar and use plastic lids for easier washing). Store in the fridge up to 72 hours.

Anti-Inflammatory Shot

  • 2 cups of alkaline water
  • 1 whole lemon, peel removed
  • 2 medium carrots peeled
  • 1 large piece of ginger, skin on
  • 2 tsp of turmeric
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • pinch of black pepper
  • pinch of cinnamon

Same process as above.
